THE BEDFORD HOTEL

Size: 650000 SF

Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood continues to be a region in transition and one that possesses a broad roster of cultural institutions. Bedford Hotel adds to local activity with aesthetics and opportunities, creating a sense of belonging adorned with resilient greenery and a commitment to urban requalification. To capture the space ‘in between,’ elements of division and transition are at play in the arches, patio, and floating garden landscape. Corridors and rooms hug residents and guests with curved edges that allude to the building’s bent shape, poetic notes that feel the equally familiar and old world.

Such intimate and controlled outdoor space imposes a feel of extended exterior atmosphere throughout all ground floor interiors.

Here, architecture and landscape want to be present and the interior design allows for that freedom by letting the façade arches be a feature at lounge and concierge reception, and letting the interior floor mimic the exterior landscape by use of concrete floors with circular carpet inserts that resemble the moss-like vegetation mixed with a lily pond.
